Image-making defines my career, but acoustics are my secondary passion. While different, there are many parallels between the two, including the process of transmitting a clear and polished message. While photography has been my method of operation for decades, audio was unfamiliar territory, which provided an interesting set of challenges. My desire to learn resulted in many experiments of audio equipment design displayed below. To enhance my learning process, I participate at the Internet forum, DIY Audio. DIY Audio is a mecca for enthusiasts, nerds, and professionals alike to share their knowledge. Inspired by the community DIY Audio fostered, I created an annual non-profit event called Burning Amp, which takes place in San Francisco. Every event features the leading scientists and entrepreneurs from the field of audio and electronics, as a guest lecturers.
X 600 based on Nelson Pass
These amplifiers represents my biggest achievement in the area of machining and finishing. These are Class AB amps, but they cover the most important part as the Class A. That means, they need to dissipate a lots of heat. They are heavy and powerful yet with incredible quality. It took me around 6 months to complete this project.
Three Way Speakers with Ribbon Top
Incredible speakers based on a Lambda bass, PHL mids and Aurum Cantus Ribbon speakers. These were fun to do. I learned veneering by working on these boxes. They provided me with such a great listening pleasure over the years.
My Lab
This is vere it all happens. Over the time I was fortunate to assemble a great deal of used measurement and test equipment, that enables me to do projects with much better accuracy and precision. I am particularly fond of older HP spectrum and network analyzers, that are still to this day increadibly accurate and functional. My other prized possesion is the AP audio analyzer, the industry standard. Microscope is really must have when working with SMD parts.
Tannoys for my office
I made these speakers for my office. I used beautiful distressed Italian leather that is normally used for leather sofas and chairs. This project turns out perfectly as you could see from the images bellow. Tannoy is old, very respected British brand. They are known for a concentric speakers where tweeter and bass mid driver are perfectly time aligned, just like the 10" speaker used in this project.
